The first Dubai visa category is for travelling alone. For people who are only travelling alone (not in a group) or for a limited period of time (as per the laws of the UAE), a non-visa alternative type of visa may be granted. A good example of this category is the business visa which is normally granted to businessmen or individuals having or planning to start a business in Dubai. An individual who is just travelling alone cannot stay in the country for the duration of his/her business operation so a business visa is granted to him/her. The same applies to family members who are also travelling alone.

The second category, tourist visa is also divided into several sub-categories based on the purpose of the tourist. One of the most popular tourist categories is the beach visa which is usually granted to all tourists coming to the emirate for three or more consecutive months. This category also includes some special rules and regulations for children, family members of the tourist and certain other factors. If you are a tourist and planning to stay in the city for a long period of time, you should apply for a tourist visa which will allow you to stay in the city for the prescribed period of your stay. This will save you from spending half your salary on hotels and other accommodation costs.

This category applies to foreign workers coming to the country to have a job. Skilled workers coming to the emirate to take up a job are not allowed a UAE visa. On the contrary, family members of such workers who are granted work permits are eligible for a UAE visa category known as the employment permit category.

The last Dubai visa category is the dependents category which is given to those foreigners coming to the country to form a family. The family members are entitled to get a visa for the duration of the stay. But the number of children should not exceed the number of adults coming to the country for the same purpose. The other reasons why people are denied a visa are being over 65 years old, not having a passport or the inability to provide government bonds for immigration purposes.
